Goals galore

-

“The history making scoring feat by Dundee United’s Paul Sturrock in 1984 brought queries to the quiz desk about the number

of other players who matched the Tannadice legend’s feat,” writes Fraser Elder.

“Over the period of 21 years, four other players have netted five goals in Premier games but, in a bizarre connection, Dundee United are the team to have suffered most!

“In August 1997, Italian striker Marco Negri scored five for Rangers against the Tannadice club at Ibrox and then Kris Boyd rewrote the history books by scoring five twice for Kilmarnock and Rangers against United in 2004 and 2009.

“Earlier, in November 2000 in his first spell with Rangers, Kenny Miller joined the five goal elite by claiming a nap hand against St Mirren and Celtic’s Gary Hooper became the fifth player to enter the Premier records with a quintet against Hearts at Parkhead in May 2012.”
