Tay Road Bridge will be closed for one night

-

A damaged joint on the Tay Road Bridge is causing a headache for rush-hour motorists.

Speed restrictions have been imposed on the bridge leading to a heavy build-up of traffic on the southbound carriageway.

The carriageway will also be fully closed to traffic between just after midnight and 5am on Thursday.

The 30mph limit will be in force until then and will remain until the work is completed.

A spokesman said: “We will be closing the bridge on December 1 from 12.20am to 5am to repair a damaged movement joint.

“A 30mph southbound restriction will continue to be applied until repair is complete.

“We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.”

Teatime motorists on Monday said the speed limit was slowing traffic down heading into Fife.

One driver said: “I got caught up in queuing traffic heading on to the bridge.

“It took ages to get there but when I finally did it seems that a 30mph speed limit was slowing everything down.

“Traffic was moving albeit very slowly.”

The work on the bridge was due to take place on Friday December 9 but has been brought forward.

A recent crash between a tractor and trailer and a car on the bridge caused damage.

The incident on November 2 led to the bridge being closed for about four hours.

A woman was taken to hospital following the crash.

Temporary pedestrian barriers have been installed to the walkway due to damage caused by the collision.
