Democracy dead in United Kingdom

-

Sir, – I want to take this opportunity to thank Jill Stephenson for agreeing with Nicola Sturgeon that the

UK is no longer a voluntary partnership, despite what Douglas Ross and countless UK prime ministers have told us.

I hope Jill will call out these politicians for repeating this lie to the Scottish people.

It is now apparent to all those within the independence movement – and I suspect many who are not yet of that persuasion – that the Supreme Court decision on November 24 2022 will go down as the day democracy was legally confirmed dead in the UK.

However, far from quelling the growing desire for independence, recent events will increase the demand for Scottish self-determination and a return to democracy.

No longer can the UK hold the moral high ground internationally. How can you support the right to selfdetermination in Ukraine while denying it to Scotland?

Our movement now carries not only a pro-scottish independence banner but also the pro-democracy banner and will go from strength to strength.

Methinks our opponents have just shot themselves in the foot.

Iain Macechern. Countess Gardens, Crieff.
