Early exit for former champion Bingham
Former world snooker champion Stuart Bingham suffered a shock first-round defeat in the Betvictor Scottish Open in Edinburgh.
Bingham, who won the world title seven years ago, lost 4-3 to fellow Essex potter Zak Surety.
World No. 97 Surety led 3-1 before Bingham recovered to set up a decider, but Surety compiled a brilliant break of 133 to claim an outstanding win.
Judd Trump and Mark Allen, though, dropped just one frame between them, with Trump beating Sanderson Lam 4-0 while the newlycrowned UK champion Allen defeated Andy Lee 4-1.
Jack Lisowski beat Gerard Greene 4-1 after breaks of 105, 89 and 93 saw him reel off three frames in succession to close out the match.
Elsewhere, Mark Williams knocked out Andres Petrov 4-1 with the help of two century breaks and John Higgins defeated Anthony Hamilton 4-2. But defending Scottish Open champion Luca Brecel was an early casualty, losing 4-3 to Glaswegian Fraser Patrick.
