SAINTS HOST GERS AS DEE HEAD TO PAISLEY

-

St Johnstone will host current holders Rangers in a plumb Scottish Cup draw as Dundee and Dundee United discovered their Hampden fate last night.

Saints, who beat Gers 2-1 the last time the sides met in November, will have a chance to replicate their previous cup success over the Ibrox side.

St Johnstone are no strangers to Hampden, having tasted double cup success during a memorable 2020-21 season.

And they dumped Gers out 4-2 on penalties en route to that trophy win.

Callum Davidson’s fell at the first hurdle in the Scottish Cup the following year, crashing to a shock 1-0 defeat at Kelty Hearts.

United have lifted the Scottish Cup twice, in 1994 and 2010, and have been runners-up eight times. They will begin their road to Hampden at home to Lowland League side University of Stirling.

Dundee have won the famous trophy once, in 1910, but reached the final on four occasions with their last Hampden visit in 2003.

Gary Bowyer’s men were forced into extratime by League One side Airdrieonians on

Saturday. But they ran out eventual 6-2 winners to clinch a fourth round trip to St Mirren.

Dunfermline and Raith Rovers will both be on their travels. Pars will visit Partick Thistle while Rovers will travel to Linlithgow Rose.

Arbroath faced Hibernian last term in the fifth round, taking the lead through Craig Wighton before falling to a 3-1 defeat.

Dick Cambell’s men, who saw off the challenge of Highland League side Fraserburgh on Saturday, will host Motherwell.

All ties will take place on the weekend of January 21-22, with final dates to be confirmed in the coming days.

The final is later than usual this year, due to the World Cup break, on Saturday June 3.
