Dark Blues goalkeeper to miss out following concussion

Gary Bowyer has confirmed Dundee keeper Ian Lawlor will miss Saturday’s Championship clash at Caley Thistle.

The 28-year-old former Doncaster Rovers goalie was injured during Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie with Airdrieonians at Dens, hitting his head on a post as he made a save.

The concussed Lawlor had to go off in the 76th minute, to be replaced by Adam Legzdins between the sticks, with Dundee eventually running out 6-2 winners after extra time.

Lawlor has been in fine form in recent weeks but Bowyer admitted he takes comfort from the fact he has more than capable back-up options in Legzdins and Harry Sharp.

The manager said: “Ian is following the concussion protocols and hasn’t trained today.

“It is a similar situation to Max Anderson a couple of weeks ago and Ian will miss Saturday’s game.

“We have said all along though that the competition for places in the goalie position is fantastic.

“All three have already played this season and we are really pleased with that.

“So with Ian being unavailable, we have two who we can rely on if called upon.”

Dundee were without striker Zach Robinson for the Airdrie game with a hamstring problem and he could miss out once more this weekend.

However, there was better news on Tyler French who was absent against the Diamonds with a groin strain.

Bowyer added: “Zach will hopefully be back training by the end of the week but with it being a hamstring we are not going to rush it if it is not right.

“It is a different leg to the one he had a similar problem with last season but he has learned from experience not to keep training with it until it finally goes.

“Fortunately for us it didn’t go so hopefully he will join back in at the back end of the week.

The competition for places in the goalie position is fantastic

with the rest of the group on Thursday which is good.

“Jordan Marshall and Paul Mcgowan are doing well but will not be ready for this weekend.”

The win over Airdrie ensured Dundee progressed to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup and they have been drawn to play Premiership side St Mirren in Paisley.

The tie is a tough proposition but Bowyer admits he is looking forward to the test against higher league opposition just as he did when the Dark Blues played Rangers in the League Cup last month.

The 51-year-old said: “It is a great tie for us.

“You are playing against opposition that are higher than you so again we will get to test the lads.

“They are a good side who are well coached but it is certainly a winnable game for us if we are right on the day.

“That is obviously what we will try to do to get through.

“From my point of view after the Rangers game there was a sense of frustration as I felt we could have done more in terms of having a go.

“But that game should still give us a lot of confidence going into the St Mirren tie.”
