FOUR WINS IS TARGET FOR SCOTS – BURGER

-

Shane Burger claims Scotland’ cricketers’ goal is easy ahead of their latest World Cup League 2 series – but achieving it will be a challenge.

The Scots face Namibia in Windhoek today in the first of two double headers which will also see them up against Nepal.

And Burger is targeting the four wins that would virtually clinch top spot in the seventeam table.

The coach said: “The team set a goal just over two years ago that we wanted to finish first in this competition.

“We’ve played some really good cricket throughout the tournament but there have also been times when we should have won games that we didn’t.

“So we could be in an even better position than we are, but nevertheless we’re still in a very good place and we have the chance to win four matches in a row – we know if we do that on this trip it pretty much secures top place.”

The Scots, with eight games remaining, are just four points behind leaders Oman who have completed their schedule.

A top three finish will secure a place at the final qualifying event for next year’s 50-over World Cup.

● A decision on whether England’s first Test on Pakistan soil for 17 years will start today will be made just two and a half hours before the game is due to begin.

Approximately 13 to 14 members of the touring party are affected by a viral infection with around half of them being members of the playing squad.

England had tried to mitigate the risk of issues in Pakistan and made additional preparations including hiring their own chef for the tour for the first time, but a number of the squad were still struck down and remained at the hotel instead of taking part in the final optional training session yesterday morning.
