BOXING

The Hands of Stone Amateur Boxing Club in Montrose have several exciting prospects. Matthew Salmond, who boxes at 65kgs. in the junior division, had an excellent points victory on the club’s show at Luthermuir Village Hall. However, three of his club-mates were on the wrong end of decisions despite giving good accounts of themselves. They were Zac Duguid (schoolboy 42kgs.), Tom Allen (junior 62kgs.) and Logan Kennedy (junior 76kgs.). Alexander Norman boxed in an exhibition.

SNOOKER

Perth potter Scott Donaldson lost a final-frame shootout with fellow Scot Anthony Mcgill to bow out of the Scottish Open in Edinburgh last night.

Donaldson whitewashed former world champion Shaun Murphy 4-0 on Tuesday and he took the opening frame at Meadowbank yesterday. Mcgill soon drew level, however, and breaks of 80 and 55 edged him closer to victory.

Having failed to pot a ball in frame five, Donaldson produced a run of 97 in the next to set up a final-frame decider, but Mcgill won that to squeeze through 4-3.
