Pupil Paige is Star volunteer

- SHEANNE MULHOLLAND

Asenior pupil in Dundee has been awarded one of our Courier Gold

Stars.

Paige Williamson, who is in S5 at Morgan Academy, was given the award in recognition of her caring for others and her volunteering both in and out of school.

The youngster has thrived as a volunteer ambassador within the school.

She is now training junior pupils to take on similar roles.

Paige also gives up much of her free time outside school to help at the Dundee Disabled Children’s Centre during weekends and holidays.

In addition, the teenager has caring responsibilities at home and she helps her gran around the house and with her sisters.

At the disabled centre, Paige helps children with the activities they choose.

She said: “I just like to help people and it’s good to see them having fun.”

Kerri Abbott, a pupil support worker for Morgan Academy and its cluster schools, nominated Paige for the Gold Star award in recognition of her sterling efforts.

Kerri said: “It’s unusual for someone so young to give up so much of their spare time, she’s quite unique in that sense.

“The volunteering has helped her confidence too.

“She used to be quite closed but now she volunteers to talk in front of classes and does other things that she never would have before.”
