Depleted Forfar keen to find winning touch

-

Forfar Athletic could be missing a trio of key players for their trip to Peterhead this afternoon.

Loons top scorer Stuart Morrison misses out through suspension as he serves the second of his two-game ban following his second red card of the season away at Spartans last month.

Midfielder Finn Robson has suffered a head knock and has been ruled out as the club follow the game’s strict concussion protocols, while Craig Thomson’s availability remains a doubt due to a recent family bereavement.

Loons boss Ray Mckinnon this week told Courier Sport that just one more win would be enough to secure League Two safety for the Station Park side, who have dropped to seventh in the table in recent weeks.

They will be looking to put back-to-back defeats to Spartans and Dumbarton behind them at Balmoor, where they are unbeaten in their last four encounters with the Blue Toon.

“We’ve been up there and won already this season, so that’s the aim for Saturday,” Mckinnon said. “They’ll want to finish as high as they can in the league.

“That affects the play-off games, so they’ll have something to play for until the end of the season.

Seb Ross’s first-half brace helped 10-man Forfar win 2-1 on their last Balmoor visit back in December, despite having Roberto Nditi dismissed in the second half.

Forfar’s last defeat at Peterhead came back in 2019 when Jack Leitch grabbed the only goal of the game.

Having beaten Clyde 4-1 in their last home outing two weeks ago, Blue Toon co-manager Jordon Brown is looking for a repeat performance against Mckinnon’s side.

He said: “Forfar are still in the mix, so they will come up fired up.

“They won against us before Christmas, which we were really disappointed about.

“We need to build on the Clyde win, add some goals and be a bit more solid at the back again.

“We’re holding on to second place at the moment, which is our ultimate aim.”
