All to play for in top four race, says Petrie

The race for the playoffs intensifies when Montrose head to Alloa this afternoon – but Gable Endies boss Stewart Petrie insists nothing will be decided today.

The Gable Endies occupy fourth spot – the last remaining play-off place – but sit five points adrift of the Wasps with a game in hand.

The game in hand is due to be played this Tuesday after last Saturday’s trip to Edinburgh City was abandoned midway through the first half.

Petrie explained: “Ultimately, common sense prevailed and it was the right call to abandon it last week.

“There was no danger to the players, but with the open stadium and astro pitch, the goal kicks were becoming farcical so it made sense to call it a day and try again on Tuesday.”

Now with a trip to Alloa on the cards, Petrie added: “These are the kind of games you want to be involved with in terms of the play-offs at the right end of the table and certainly one we are looking forward to.

“Andy (Graham) has got them playing some fantastic stuff but like ourselves, have had a few results that wouldn’t have been what they wanted.

“It just shows how hard it is to go on a run in this league but they managed to get on track with that great win over Stirling in the derby last weekend.

“With the gap in points we know how big the game is, and if they were to win that then they would obviously have a very healthy advantage going into the last few games.

“We are aware of all of that, but nothing will actually be decided on Saturday.

“If either of us win the game then it could go a good way to putting them in a strong position for the top four.”

Montrose are without Alex Balfour, Liam Callaghan, Terry Masson, Kerr Waddell and Paul Watson.
