Good luck to St Johnstone FC for the rest of the season! LIONEL RICHIE
Pop superstar Lionel Richie has pinned his football colours to the mast ahead of his much-anticipated gig in Perth.
The American singer has shown his support for St Johnstone FC before his performance at the team’s McDiarmid Park stadium on June 3.
The 68-year-old, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide, also wished the team luck for the remaining post-split fixtures.
The Hello and Dancing on the Ceiling singer said: “Good luck to St Johnstone FC for the rest of the season!
“Looking forward to performing at the legendary McDiarmid Park in June.”
The Lionel Richie All The Hits tour will run from Friday June 1 until Sunday June 24 with the Perth appearance his only Scottish date.
It will be his first UK shows since he received rave reviews for his performances at the O2 in London and since launching his Las Vegas residency show in 2016.
Richie became a worldwide superstar in the 1980s, but saw his career reinvigorated after a televised Glastonbury Festival performance in 2015.
His Definitive Collection album hit the top of the charts and provided his first number one in the UK for almost a quarter of a century.
Pop singer and 2016 Strictly Come Dancing TV star Anastacia was recently announced as the support act for the Motown legend’s appearance in the Fair City.
With thousands of fans due to flock to McDiarmid Park see the star, the local economy is expected to be given a huge boost, with the city’s hotels, restaurants and bars likely to see the biggest increase in footfall.
Around 16,000 fans flocked to McDiarmid Park for Elton John’s show in 2008, generating a £50,000 windfall for the club.
There had been outrage over ticket touts attempting to sell briefs for the Richie show at three times the face value just days after they went on sale – despite it not even being sold out.
