Youth stabbed to death in street after incident

The Courier & Advertiser (Dundee Edition) - - NEWS -

Anderson was 17 when he was sent to detention for the culpable homicide of fellow teenager Adam Paton in a frenzied knife attack in Montrose.

Mr Paton, also 17, from Brechin, had punched Anderson during a dispute in North Street on April 24 2008 so, using a knife taken from a flat earlier, Anderson stabbed him to death.

During the attack, Anderson repeatedly struck his victim on the head and body with a knife, wounding him through the heart and slashing his face.

The court heard how Anderson had been born in Cornton Vale women’s prison to a mother addicted to heroin and an abusive father who died in police custody.

His adoptive parents could not prevent a descent into substance, drug and alcohol abuse and, ultimately, crime. He was arrested in August 2007 for assaulting and robbing a woman of cash and a mobile phone.

And just days before knifing Mr Paton to death, he was freed on bail from Rossie House, Montrose, after appearing at Arbroath Sheriff Court over allegations of breach of the peace and vandalism.
