Kirkcaldy player-boss Ness quits

-

KIRKCALDY YM are looking for a new manager after player-boss Craig Ness resigned, writes our junior football correspondent.

Secretary Jim Douglas said: “Craig wanted to take the club a step forward and, while we were on target to do that in the first half of the season, disappointing results since prompted Craig to ask to be relieved of his post as manager, though he intends to continue playing.”

There is no immediate rush to appoint a successor, and nothing will be decided until next weekend at the earliest.

Meanwhile, Sauchie are Premier League Champions courtesy of a 4-1 win away to relegated Arniston Rangers last night.

In last night’s penultimate Central League fixture between Thornton Hibs and Kinnoull, Craig Gilbert’s men made it back-to-back wins by following up their victory over Dundonald with a 4-2 win at Memorial Park last night.

But they had to come from behind after trailing at the interval against a Perth outfit undoubtedly distracted by tomorrow’s East of Scotland Cup semi against Sauchie.

Although Lee White gave Hibs the lead after 17 minutes, goals from Adam O’connor and David Thornton put Gavin Price’s side ahead.

Gary Thomson levelled after 56 minutes and two goals in a minute from trialist Lewis Wishart after 83 minutes and Thomson again earned the Fifers all three points that guarantee them a seventh-place finish.

Both clubs wind up their league campaign this week.

Thornton are at home to Steelend on Thursday, this game having been brought forward from Saturday, when Kinnoull host Newburgh.

Tonight Steelend meet Bankfoot in the fixture that was postponed on Saturday because Woodside Park was waterlogged. Kick-off is 7.15pm.
