Donald Trump pulled out of bid to purchase Rangers

-

DONALD TRUMP (pictured) backed out of a move to buy Rangers, it was claimed yesterday.

It was understood the tycoon had considered investing in the stricken club even as it descended into administration earlier this year.

But it has emerged he turned his back on the SPL side when the extent of its cash problems came to light.

A source within Trump’s camp said: “We looked seriously and walked away. It just did not make sense for us, although they are a great club.

“We hope someone steps in and builds up the team again.”

Trump revealed two years ago he had been offered an opportunity to invest in a Scottish football team but remained tightlipped on which side.

He said at the time: “Stranger things have happened. People have spoken to me about it, so we will see.”

George Sorial, executive vice president for the Trump Organisation, refused to comment on any links with Rangers but said Trump was “committed” to doing business in Scotland.

He said: “We are committed to Scotland for the long term and will always be evaluating opportunities to support our business and the interests of Scotland.”

The businessman first launched his Scottish golf vision in 2006 and vowed to create the “world’s greatest golf course” at the Menie Estate near Balmedie.

The development is set to open this summer and is expected to attract the rich and famous to the north east as well as top sportsmen from across the globe.
