Touring boxes get pupils intrigued
A FIFE school has been busy drumming up interest in an innovative new educational project run by National Museums Scotland.
Pupils from Methilhill Primary School were joined by youngsters from Woodlands Nursery in Methil, Park Primary in Clackmannanshire and Knightsridge Primary in West Lothian recently to celebrate the Museum2go project, which has been funded by the Robertson Trust.
The event was the culmination of an 18-month project, working in partnership with the nursery and schools, which has resulted in the creation of four new loans boxes — which contain objects that can be toured around schools.
Objects in the boxes include giant creepy-crawlies, eye make-up pots covered in goats’ skin, and a whole cheetah skin.
The boxes will join an existing Fascinating Mummies box which contains real and replica Ancient Egyptian objects.
To mark the occasion, pupils from Methilhill Primary were involved in a dance and drum performance led by Chief Sulemen Chebe, who came to Scotland from Ghana in 2007 and runs motivational workshops in African drumming and storytelling.
Catriona Johnstone, class teacher at Methilhill Primary, said of her pupils’ recent visit to the National Museum of Scotland: “They were amazed by what the museum was actually like — it was difficult to drag them away by the end of the day.
