West celebrates Lingfield Reaction

-

SHEENA WEST saddled a double on a glorious afternoon at Lingfield yesterday.

On a card that mixed turf racing and the all weather, west was on hand to see long-term absentee Reaction made a victorious return in the Citipost Direct Distributions Classified Selling Stakes.

Reaction had been off the course for 800 days with leg trouble and was nearly given another year off before the recent wet spell enabled West to get some much needed work into him.

The 9-2 shot made all under West’s nephew, Harry Poulton, to initiate her brace.

Alfraamsey (5-2 favourite) completed the double as he demonstrated his admirable stamina under Jimmy Fortune in the Menzies Distribution Handicap.

And Roger Charlton’s golden spell continued when Clowance Estate won the News International Maiden Stakes on his debut.

Sent off the 2-1 favourite, he had obviously been doing most things right at home and struck the front a good two furlongs out under James Doyle.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Scottish Vespers just about drew level at one stage and though that rival had the benefit of a previous run, Clowance Estate gamely stuck at it to win going away by a length and a quarter.

Steely (3-1) broke his duck at the eighth attempt in the first division of the Menzies Select Handicap.

Ridden by Ryan Moore for his father Gary, the pair made every yard of the running.

Subtle Knife (8-1) was a ready winner of the Citibet New Weekly Football Betting Magazine Fillies’ Handicap for Giles Bravery andwilliam Carson.
