Standrews and Kinnoull to contest East of Scotland final

-

A NEW NAME will be inscribed on the East of Scotland Cup when the final is played a week on Saturday after St Andrews and Kinnoull won their way through to the final in last night’s semis, writes our junior football correspondent.

Tulloch Park keeper Duncan Bruce was Kinnoull’s hero as they edged out the Premier League Champions Sauchie 4-2 on penalties.

In a hard-fought and evenly-contested 90 minutes, both teams had their chances, but failed to take them resulting in it finishing goalless enabling Gavin Price’s men to prevail in the shoot-out.

St Andrews’ 4-1 win at Dundonald was helped by the hosts playing more than 50 minutes with nine men.

Having said that Saints had to come from behind with Moorside boss Archie Wyse seeing Stuart Cargill give his new Bluebell charges the lead after 20 minutes.

Gary Sutherland came close to equalising when he headed against the bar on the half hour mark.

But home hopes suffered a double blow inside three minutes with Derek Wallace and Steven Page both dismissed, the latter for handball in conceding the penalty from which Sutherland levelled.

Three minutes from the break, Ricky Patrick put Saints ahead.

Saints were on easy street in the second half and further goals followed from Johnny Mccrae five minutes after the re-start and Ryan Mcinnes with quarter of an hour to go.

In the Fife and Lothians Cup, there was disappointment for Kelty Hearts, who failed to make the final after going down 3-2 at home to Broxburn.

The Lothian side who have just won promotion to the Super League took the lead through Mark Cowan after 17 minutes, but Conrad Courts cancelled that out two minutes later.

But the visitors regained the lead on 24 minutes through David Morrison, but a second Courts counter meant the sides went in level at the break.

Howeve r, a Sean Martin strike 10 minutes after the re-start took Steve Pittman’s men through to an all-lothian final against Linlithgow Rose at Bo’ness.

There is one Central League fixture this evening with Thornton Hibs hosting Steelend Vics as both clubs wind up their season.

Kick-off at Memorial Park is 7.15pm.
