Maclean enjoying the winning feeling

-

DUNDEE CCS Stars skipper A J MacLean loved having the winning feeling back after losing five straight games.

The ambitious Canadian wants the 4-2 home win over Cardiff Devils last Sunday to be a platform for more success.

Stars now face a key home clash with Edinburgh Capitals on Saturday at 7pm.

The eighth-placed Tayside team have 23 points from 27 starts while Capitals have 22 points from 29 fixtures.

The Murrayfield men let an early lead slip to go down to arch rivals Fife Flyers in overtime before a bumper 1,500 crowd in Edinburgh on Monday.

But the Tayside team are buzzing again after Sunday’s victory.

MacLean said: “Sunday night was a nice feeling.

“It was a really professional effort from the guys against a team in the top four in the standings. Now we need to capitalise on that.”

The Nova Scotia-born forward added: “We’re at home but Capitals are a tough side to beat.

“We’ll be having our regular training this week and we know we have to focus well.

“Edinburgh had a great result at Brae head last Saturday so we know they can be dangerous.

“In fact, they are playing pretty well right now and it will be tough for us.

“But it is a huge game and a must win for us.”

Meanwhile, Colin Shields returns to his home town of Glasgow tonight with Belfast Giants hoping to pick up another two points against Braehead Clan.

The Great Britain hit-man switched back to Belfast from Sheffield Steelers just before Christmas.

The 32-year-old is delighted with the way he has slipped back into Giants line-up.

The former Paisley Pirates star, who was drafted by the National Hockey League’s Philadelphia Flyers in 2000, said: “It’s great to be back (in Belfast).

“There is an electric atmosphere here and it feels like I’ve never been away.

“I had a few good years here with Giants and I’m joining them half way through the season.

“The boys have been great in the locker room and my plan is to keep things simple and to do what is asked of me.”
