Fife pair dominate hare and tortoise relay

-

MORE THAN 50 veteran athletes took part in the Hare and Tortoise Relay at Heather hall Woods near Ladybank, writes our athletics correspondent.

Kenneth Anthony and John Thomson dominated, finishing two minutes and 47 seconds ahead of the nearest opposition.

With each athlete running twice over the 1.8-mile woodland trails, Anthony was already 40 seconds clear after the opening stage, handing over to Thomson with Kinross Road Runner Gregor Malcolm following home in second.

Thomson, who took the European over-50s 800m bronze medal in 2010, shows no signs of slowing down — by the halfway hand-over had increased the duo’s advantage to 90 seconds.

For both Anthony and Thomson, their second-stage stints over the muddy pathways provided a celebratory finale as they increased their sizeable lead to the finish line.

Malcolm and Kinross colleague Euan Boyle followed home as runnersup, 18 seconds ahead of father and son partnership

Alex and Brian Thomson (Fife AC). Another family double prevailed as mother and daughter Christine and Jennifer Kibble (Fife AC) placed 11th overall, first female pairing.
