Boss full of praise for debutant

- GEGGAN RELISHES GOAL: Continued from page 48 nrobertson@thecourier.co.uk

“IT WAS a great result and we will go down to Dumbarton on Saturday full of confidence.

“The title race is wide open as everybody can beat everybody.”

A delighted Jim Jefferies hailed the overall team performance and made special mention of teenager Shaun Byrne, who was thrown in at the deep end for his full league debut in a frenetic Fife derby.

He said: “I have told the players that they did really well today.

“I always felt we were the team who were going to score.

“It was all about the result but I felt we deserved the points against a really stuffy side who get behind the ball well. It was great goal from a player who had an outstanding game.

“I also have to mention the young laddie Byrne, who I gave his league debut today.

“We have high hopes for him but I thought he was outstanding.”

Raith boss Grant Murray acknowledged that the first goal was always going to be crucial, and was unhappy it was his side who conceded it.

He said:“It is obviously disappointing to lose a big derby.

“Everyone is gutted in the dressing room.

“The first goal in these games is always vital.

“It was a great ball in but we are still disappointed that the boy got a free header.”
