Angus man charged over death crash

-

A BRECHIN man has been charged in connection with the death of a schoolboy who was knocked down by a delivery van on a road in Aberdeenshire.

Anthony Healy died after he was struck by the vehicle on a street near his home in July last year.

The nine-year-old had been out playing on his rollerblades when the tragedy happened next to a new housing development in Westhill.

The schoolboy was on his way to play video games with his friends when the accident happened.

The road was closed for several hours as police examined the scene to establish what had happened.

A 25-year-old man has now been charged with death by dangerous driving and has appeared in court.

Blair Fearn, of Brechin, made no plea during the private hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and was released on bail.

The youngster’s mother, Frances, lives on Cairnie estate near the road where her son was knocked down.

Miss Healy previously described her young son as a “loving and soft-natured” boy.

The schoolboy wanted to become an astronaut or a scientist and enjoyed playing the keyboard and his computer.

Grandfather Michael Healy said Anthony was close to his three brothers and was creative.

He said his popular grandson had “lived life like any boy should, learning new things, experimenting, stretching his wings and enjoying the freedom to be friends with whomever he wished”.

Fearn is expected to appear in court again.

No further dates have yet been set for the case.
