Group to perform Phantom of the Opera

A GRO U P of Fi f e youngsters will bring the curtain up on a Scottish premiere tomorrow.

For the On at Fife Youth Music Theatre will present the f irst Scottish youth group production of A ndrew Lloyd Webber’s hit musical The Phantom of the Opera.

The famous tale will be performed by a cast of 33 young performers, all of whom are aged between 11 and 21, in Kirkcaldy.

The show follows the theatre group’s success last year with Les Miserables.

Led by Janet Robertson and Youth Music Theatre Scotland, the show is a chance to see young people from all across the kingdom.

The young performers come from Kirkcaldy, Dunfermlin­e, Glenrothes, St A ndrews, Dalgety Bay, Markinch and Cupar.

They will be joined by a live band of 28 musicians in the adaptation of the hit musical, which has been staged around the world for decades.

Creative director Janet said: “This is a thrilling opportunit­y for such a talented cast to bring life to this iconic musical theatre legend.

Janet also recently opened two arts hubs at the Postings Shopping Centre in Kirkcaldy as part of new initiative ON Creative.

Rehearsals and arts workshops are taking place in the hubs all summer, while ON at Fife Youth Music Theatre will also stage Les Miserables at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Its score, written by A ndrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart, includes Angel of Music and Music of the Night.

It will run at the A dam Smith Theatre from tomorrow until Saturday.
