Murder accused made Tob in claim

-

A MURDER accused claimed a mobile phone found in his flat belonged to notorious Scottish serial killer Peter Tobin.

Drew Paterson made the flippant comment in a police interview the day after he and his flatmate are alleged to have assaulted William Reid and left him to die in freezing conditions at Perth’s multi pitches.

Both Paterson and his co-accused Taylor Gordon deny murdering Mr Reid in Perth on December 7 and 8 last year.

Yesterday the High Court at Perth was shown footage from police interviews with Paterson and Gordon.

In the interview conducted by Detective Constable Gary Simpson, Paterson was told officers were examining his mobile phone.

Paterson replied: “It’s no my phone.”

A sked who it belonged to, he said: “Peter Tobin.”

When told that Tobin had been jailed for his crimes, which include the murders of Angelika Kluk in 2006 and of Vicky Hamilton in 1991, Paterson said: “That old gangster”, before flying into an expletive-filled rage.

Several times during the interview Paterson slammed his fists against the interview room table.

When asked about video footage he had allegedly shown former co-accused Mark Boyd of Mr Reid being stamped on as he lay unconscious in a bath, Paterson told Mr Simpson to “f*** off ” and attempted to leave the interview room.

In contrast his co-accused Gordon displayed a calmer demeanour, simply answering “no comment” to many of the questions put to him.

The trial before Lady Clark continues.
