Babies’ famous birthday

- by Jenny Thomson jethomson@thecourier.co.uk

AS THE world waits to find out the name of the future king born on Monday, 28 new arrivals were welcomed in Courier Country on the same day as the royal couple.

While the royal baby was born in the comforts of the private Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in West London, Gillian Hershaw gave birth to her son Noah on the Kingsway in Dundee.

The little lad, who is a healthy 8lb 6oz, the same weight as the new prince, was born in the car at 6.50pm while his parents were stuck in traffic en route to the hospital.

Father Jimmy was forced to keep driving, unable to move lanes despite having his hazards lights on due to the heavy traffic.

Gillian said: “We thought we had left plenty of time for the journey. We managed to get the car packed then all of a sudden I realised he was coming.

“It was a nice quick labour and I am just so relieved that everything turned out OK.”

Mother-of-four Mrs Hershaw said Noah was not the first child she has delivered in the car, with her two-year-old Alexis born on Liff Road.

Noah was one of nine newborns in Tayside who will forever share their big day with the young prince, although most were born in the comfort of Ninewells.

Xander Ewart was born weighting 7lb 15oz at 7.22pm to Sarah Mollins and Neil Ewart.

First-time parents Cindy MacDonald and Gary Waugh celebrated the arrival of their daughter Paige Caitlyn Waugh who weighed in at 8lb 5oz, very close to the royal baby weight.

In Fife, 12 babies were born to delighted parents on the same day and of those nine were boys and three were girls. In the Forth Valley area there were seven babies born — three boys and four girls.

At Forth Valley Royal Hospital a little boy was given the suitably regal name James George, a family name rather than a reference to the royal family.

First-time parents Nicola and Thomas Tyrrell, from Callander, welcomed their daughter Maya Rose, who was born at 11.57am, weighing 8lb 3oz.

Babies born on Monday will receive a lucky silver penny.
