Mission Approved’s opportunity to get mission accomplished

- by The Ferret

ODDS-ON backers had their fingers burned when Mission Approved could finish only fourth at Pontefract last time but he is given the chance to recoup those losses in the Slug A nd Lettuce Weybridge Handicap at Sandown.

Sir Michael Stoute’s charge was a maiden winner on his final start as a juvenile last October before landing an all- weather handicap at Lingfield on his return in May.

He was a ready winner that day and the handicapper saw fit to put him up by 5lb as he switched back to turf at Pontefract last time.

He was then sent off an 8-11 chance but never looked like landing the odds, taking some time to settle before never really getting going on the track.

Mission A pproved was beaten nine lengths at the finish and that leaves him with questions to answer, but Stoute has given him plenty of time to recover and he has reportedly been working well ahead of this outing.

Consign goes in search of a hat-trick in the Slug A nd Lettuce Staines Handicap.

He started his run at Newmarket last month when the application of a visor certainly seemed to do the trick as he beat a useful yardstick in good style.

The headgear also helped to focus his mind next time too as he won a fair event at Windsor, possibly racing with a little in hand as he appeared to be far from the end of his tether in winning by just over a length.

MAnkini is one of a handful of runners in the Tom Cribb Handicap at Leicester and this Ebor entry merits the utmost respect.

Hailing from the Luca Cumani yard, he relished the switch up to a mile and a half at Doncaster last time, sprinting home to win by nine lengths, despite hanging a bit in the closing stages.

He has shot up 12lb in the weights for that one but he looks a horse full of potential, and if he is to take up his York entry next month he really should be winning here.
