And the countdown to the Games begins

ORGANISERS OF the Glasgow 2014 Commonweal­th Games expect up to a million sports fans to be drawn to the events in Scotland next year as the official ticketing guide was launched yesterday.

The Games will play host to 4,500 athletes competing in 17 sports, and an army of 15,000 volunteers will help ensure the festivitie­s run smoothly.

Glasgow 2014 will be the 20th Commonweal­th Games.

Yesterday saw the unveiling of the Glasgow 2014 Off icial Ticketing Guide, which will enable members of the public get involved in the Games by buying some of the one million tickets on offer.

The guide, featuring stunning athletic imagery from across the sports programme, sets out full details of how everyone can be part of an accessible and affordable Commonweal­th Games.

Ticket prices start at £15 for all sports, with half-price tickets for under-16s and over-60s.

Two-thirds of all sports tickets are £25 or under and there are no booking fees for any tickets.

The ticket price also includes public transport in the local area on the day of the sports session.

Members of the public can obtain tickets by filling out an applicatio­n form available online at the Glasgow 2014 website as well as in paper format in the ticketing guide.

There are limits to how many tickets each person can request per household, although these differ depending on the event.

To increase the chances of obtaining tickets people can opt to accept lower price category tickets to events.
