First job done by infant prince

-

WHATEVER NAME is chosen for the new prince, he is already one of the most famous people on the planet.

There can have been few people in history, if any, whose first moments have been subjected to such global scrutiny.

The media clamour surrounding his birth dwarfs the attention lavished on his father, PrinceWilliam, when he was born.

Now third in line to the throne, the young prince’s life has already been largely mapped out for him.

Such pressure is not something many people could cope with, not least when every move is placed under enormous media scrutiny.

Fortunately, when it comes to looking for advice, his own dad is perhaps the best-placed person to tutor him in the art of growing up in public.

The Royal Family has undergone huge changes in his father’s lifetime, and will no doubt go through many more by the time the infant prince ascends to the throne.

However, what the royal birth has shown is that the monarchy is perhaps more popular than it has ever been.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding, the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations and the birth of the new prince have all occurred in relatively quick succession and helped to cement the Royal Family’s place in the public’s affections.

The huge crowds that congregated outside the gates of Buckingham Palace on Monday demonstrated that even when there is nothing much to see — apart from the easel announcing the birth — vast numbers of people from all over the world still wanted to feel part of such a historic event.

And by bringing the world together in celebration, he has already completed his first royal duty.
