Rovers fight back gives players belief – Murray

RAITH ROVERS boss Grant Murray reckons his side’s ability to take a point out of adversity at Hamilton on Saturday shows they have the strength of character needed for a promotion push.

The Kirkcaldy club looked like they were heading towards just their second league loss of the season at New Douglas Park, after the concession of a first-half goal to James Keatings and then defender Dougie Hill’s sending-off a short time later.

H owe ve r, R ove r s levelled thanks to Calum Elliot’s 70th minute penalty and stayed resolute to earn the draw that keeps them firmly within touching distance of the teams above them.

Murray is understandably delighted that his side’s unbeaten run in the league now stands at eight straight games as a result.

“Going down to 10 men quite early and a goal down, to turn that around and get a goal back and finish the game quite strongly, we’ve got to take a wee bit of belief from that,” he told Courier Sport.

“It does galvanise you a bit going down to 10 men.

“Sometimes as a manager you think: ‘We’re down to 10 men and we can play like that’, but the players have to dig in that bit extra, they have to concentrate more and they have to take touches where sometimes they wouldn’t to try and kill the game and get a hold of the game.”

Rovers play host to bottom club Morton this Saturday and have been boosted with the news that defender Paul Watson will be back available.

Winger Joe Cardle will also be available for selection after recovering from a knock, although Hill will have to serve his suspension.
