Dark Blues could cash in as Celtic eye up Griffiths

DUNDEE COULD be set for a welcome windfall if Celtic are successful in their pursuit of Wolves and Scotland striker Leigh Griffiths.

The former Dark Blues favourite left Dens for Molineux in January, 2011 for a fee believed to be in the region of £150,000 on an 18-month deal.

Following a successful loan spell back in Scotland with Hibs, Griffiths signed a two-year contract extension withWolves last summer.

However, the 23-yearold, who spent 18 months at Dens Park after signing from Livingston, has fallen out of favour in recent weeks with manager Kenny Jackett despite having scored 13 goals this season.

He was an unused substitute again on Tuesday night as Wolves triumphed 3-0 against Oldham, a side that contained his former Dundee team-mate Gary Harkins.

With Griffiths frozen out at Molineux, Celtic boss Neil Lennon has launched two bids to persuade the English League One side to part with the striker, so far without success.

Wolves are thought to be holding out for a £1 million fee with the January transfer window due to shut tomorrow night.

If Celtic do f inally succeed in their pursuit of Griffiths, then it has been confirmed that Dundee will be due a percentage of the fee as there was a sell-on clause written in to the deal when he left Dens.

The figures involved will remain confidential.

However, any money would be welcomed as the Dark Blues continue to battle it out for promotion back to the Premiership.

Meanwhile, Dens boss John Brown has been dealt a blow with the news that Iain Davidson could miss the next fortnight because of a hamstring strain picked up during last weekend’s defeat to Falkirk.
