ONE OF the best known names in Scottish radio has been fined after he admitted speeding on the A90 between Perth and Dundee.

Former DJ of the year and Director of AM Radio Arthur Ballingall admitted driving at 84mph on the dual carriageway.

Ballingall — known to Radio Tay listeners asAlly Bally — admitted driving in excess of the 70mph limit near Glencarse on August 2 last year.

He pleaded guilty by letter at Perth’s Justice of the Peace court yesterday and was fined £340. He also had four penalty points added to his licence.

Ballingall, 61, of Ballumbie Castle Estate, Dundee, rose through the ranks after starting on the sales team at Radio Tay and eventually became managing director.

He presented the morning show for 12 years, eventually becoming programme controller, director and MD in 2000.

In 2009, he took up the newly-created role of director for AM Scotland in Bauer Media’s Big City Network, overseeing output for programming on the AM stations across the nation.

As Ally Bally he still presents regular shows on Tay AM, with his weekly mid-morning s h ow broadcast across Scotland from Radio Tay’s Dundee studios.

As past president and treasurer of the Scottish Association of Motoring Writers, he also presented Motoring Matters and Wednesday Wheels.

Country legend Dolly Parton told him: “You are such a naughty man Ally Bally, we must meet up when I come to Scotland.”
