COMMUNITIES FROM across Courier Country have earned the title of being some of the best places to live in the UK.

Auchterarder, Bridge of A llan and St A ndrews have made it onto the list by The Sunday Times.

The respected guide combines data and statistics, such as crime rates, house prices and school performance to compile the top 101 best locations to settle down.

This is the first time Bridge of A llan has featured in the supplement and its addition has been welcomed by locals.

Graham Russell, a member of the local Rotary club, highlighted the town’s attractions.

He said: “It’s nice to be recognised on this list.

“It’s a lovely place to live and a lot of the shops aren’t your traditional high street chains — there are a lot of independent retailers.

“There’s also a good community spirit and people seem to take a pride in living here, which is always good.”

Meanwhile, Scotland’s best amateur weatherman, Windy Wilson, flew the flag for Auchterarder.

Describing himself as being “born and bred” in the town, the local celebrity praised the “great” community spirit.

“It’s an ideal place to bring up a family,” he added. “It’s in a nice rural setting, but you’re just 10 minutes away from Perth, 20 minutes away from Stirling and an hour away from Glasgow and Edinburgh.

“It is one of the nicer towns in Perthshire.”

MSP for North East Fife Roderick Campbell hailed St A ndrews as being a “wonderful” place to live.

He said: “St A ndrews is a place of contradictions — it is remote yet central; big yet small; ancient yet new.”
