Riggi case may be dropped
A WOMA N accused of attacking Theresa Riggi may have the case dropped after the murderer’s death.
Riggi was found dead at Rampton Secure Hospital in Nottinghamshire this week. She transferred there from Scotland, where she was serving 16 years for killing her three children in Edinburgh in 2010.
It had been hoped the 49- year- old, who was originally from California, would give evidence by video link next week in the case of a former fellow prisoner, A ngela Hamilton, who is accused of slashing her with a razor when they were both in Cornton Vale Prison in November 2011.
Riggi had been held in the Stirling jail prior to being transferred to secure psychiatric care.
Hamilton, 40, is said to have permanently disfigured Riggi by repeatedly striking her head with a razor.
Hamilton, whose address was given on court papers as care of Leverndale Hospital, Glasgow, was due to appear at a procedural hearing at Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday, at which a pyschiatrist would have given evidence about Riggi’s fitness to testify.
Solicitor Murray A itken told the court: “I understand the Crown wish to consider if they are going to proceed.”
Sheriff Wyllie Robertson continued the case for a week, when Hamilton will be required to appear.
