A SMALL team of programmers who won Abertay University’s Dare to be Digital competition have taken their place among the giants of the video games industry.

Team DOS, whose game Size DOES Matter was one of three winners of last year’s prestigious Dare to be Digital contest, took home the Bafta Ones to Watch award at Wednesday’s video game Baftas.

DOS Studios team members Mattis Delerud, Silje Dahl, Lars Andersen and Trond Fasteraune all attended the ceremony at Tobacco Dock in east London.

Dare to be Digital challenges teams of programmers to create a working game prototype in just eight weeks. The competition now attracts hundreds of entrants from across the globe.

Rockstar North’s Grand Theft Auto 5 picked up three awards, including best game design. The original Grand Theft Auto was developed in Dundee by DMA Design.

The company eventually became Edinburgh-based developers Rockstar North. The company also received a prestigious Bafta fellowship.

However, zombie action adventure The Last Of Us was the night’s big winner.

The brutal Playstation 3 video game by American developer Naughty Dog took f ive gongs, including best game.

Hailed as the “perfect swan song” for the PS3 before the next generation of machines gets into full swing, it was announced last week that Last Of Us will also be made into a Hollywood feature f ilm. Aside from best game, the apocalyptic title won for best story, performer and audio achievement.
