Rope & Vine, the album by Steve Knight featuring the vocals of Dave Webster from AMWWF along with some choice friends including Kevin Findlay, Chris Marra, Stevie Anderson, Ross Nicoll and Michael Benbow, can be heard live at the Gardyne Theatre tomorrow night. Tickets from the box office and doors open at 7.30pm.

Cookin’ Sessions returns to the Reading Rooms tonight with a double helping of dance music from Jono Fyda, Nick Wilson and Ken Swift dishing out the flavour in the main room while Sunday club residents Mikey Robertson and Chris Cook keep things cool in the bar. Tomorrow it’s Beat Club featuring Rooms favourites Ugly Duckling and Fingathing (see Rocktalk feature).

On Thursday Sessions presents the original West Coast hip hop pioneer and king of electro Egyptian Lover who will be playing a live 808 and DJ set. Entry is £8 on the door.

Number 57 has The Elaine Stewart Band tonight with punchy female vocals covering all genres.

Tomorrow there’s guitar and harmonica driven blues from Georgia Crawl in the teatime teazer slot at 5.30pm followed by Tripper covering everything from The Beatles to modern day classics from 9.30pm.

Stevie Anderson and Dave Webster provide some delightful vocal and guitar harmonies at Sunday’s Live Lounge acoustic session from 6pm then Kenny Martin’s open mic rounds of the weekend at 9pm.

Barry & Nicky Lawson kick off the weekend of live music at The Bank Bar tonight. Tomorrow it’s Headroom. Both start around 9.30pm.

Liverpool indie rock ’n’ roll group Stillia are at Redd Suite tonight with support from Drenched, Dan Leckie and The NSA. Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £5 from Groucho’s and the venue or £6 on the door.

Tonight at Duke’s Corner there’s rock and pop covers from The Broon Troot Orchestra.

Edinburgh-based The Last September will be playing their unique and exciting sound tomorrow night drawing from a melting pot of rock, folk and indie influences. Local duo St Kilda Mailboat will provide support. Both start at 9.30pm. Duke’s open mic on Wednesday is hosted by Ross Nicoll of Revolver. That kicks off at 8.30pm.

All are free entry before 11.30pm.

Dundee and Angus College Events Management Students are holding a charity fundraiser at Duke’s next Thursday in aid of Macmillan featuring local acts The Un-Romantics, Nathan Bellshaw, The New Times and Neil McLaren.

Doors open at 7pm and entry is free.

Legends has the entertaini­ng Independen­ce tonight from 9.30pm.

Tomorrow Glasgow’s GTS Boos Band make their Legends debut with a set full of blues classics at 5pm followed by all the latest dance floor fillers from Tonka at 9.30pm.

There’s Sunday soul from Barry & Nicky Lawson in the tea time slot then it’s The Bottle Jam Band and Friends from 9pm.

Buck Rogers play a special afternoon show at The Osnaburg in Forfar tomorrow at 2.30pm. That’s free entry.

Cherry Bombz bring their pop punk sounds McDaniels tomorrow from 9.30pm. Entry is free before 11.30pm.

Jake Irvin is at Nicoll’s Bar tonight from 9pm then tomorrow it’s Bedrock at the same time. Entry is free for both.

Clark’s has the lush and layered sound of Miami Vince tonight.

Tomorrow Buffalo Soldiers pay proper respect to reggae and ska classics.

Both start at 9.45pm with free entry before 11.30pm.

The Jazz Lunch has Kevin Murray and the residents this Sunday from 1.30pm then at 7pm Gavin McGinty and Robbie Ward host the Sunday Song Club.

Next Thursday’s Pre Production features Sienna with support from Samson (see Rocktalk feature).

Tonight at Non-Zero’s, Edinburgh metalcore group Mind Set a Threat and poppunk Fifers Yeah Detroit will be appearing in support of their new singles. Last Of Us, Shambles in a Husk and Buffalo Heart will also be playing on the night.

The free Saturday afternoon session this week comes from The Afterglo then at night Without Reason and Oath of Kings both make a return to Dundee along with The Weight of Atlas, Kaoss Theory! and Aletha. Tickets are £4 in advance or £5 on the door.

There’s a chance to hear some thrilling sounds of Scottish traditiona­l music on Tuesday as the Whistlebin­kies make a rare visit to Dundee to perform on the Unicorn.

Dundee’s Man Without Machines play a couple of dates with Hull punk poets Life next week. First off they’re at Buskers in Dundee on Thursday, then Aberdeen’s Cellar 35 next Saturday.

The gigs are to promote the fine new double A side release Money and Crawling, which is released on Monday and available as limited edition 7” and download. Both tracks were produced by former Kaiser Chief Nick Hodgson at his studio in London.

Man Without Machines, formed by Spare Snare man Adam Lockhart, play electroind­ie-synth-pop. Doors open around 8pm.
