Recognition for region as nation’s ‘best destination’
FIFE HAS added to its collection of tourism awards after being named “best destination” at this year’s VisitScotland EXPO in Glasgow.
This year tour operators from all over Europe, the US and Canada visited the Fife stand to find out what the region has to offer.
Fife Tourism Partnership, Fife Golf Partnership, Best of Scotland Holidays, Knockhill, Fife Cultural Trust, Spencerfield Spirit Company, Fairmont Hotel, Blown Away Adventures and About Scotland Tours all shared the stand organised by Fife Council.
It is the second time Fife has won the award, which is voted for by the buyers who attend the show over the two days.
In 2012, tourism expenditure in Fife was more than £313 million. More than half was spent in St Andrews and the north east.
The same year, the region was visited by 2.8 million people, with the tourism industry supporting 5,887 full-time equivalent jobs.
