DUNFERMLINE AND West Fife Sports Council has been honoured by its peers.

The Scottish Association of Local Sports Councils presented the team with the annual award for the best youth initiative of the year for a schools coaching scheme.

The scheme, supported by Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, involves club coaches visiting schools to deliver instruction in athletics, badminton, bowls, cricket, hockey and tennis.

The sports council said there has been a marked increase in the skills level of the pupils taking part in its series of 22 festivals since the project was introduced in 2012.

In addition, clubs involved in the delivery of the sessions have reported increased membership applications.

The presentation, made to sports council secretary Noel Grimshaw and executive member Pat Reid, took place during the association’s annual conference.
