Lineen names Under-20 squad to go to New Zealand
SCOTLAND UNDER-20 head coach Sean Lineen has named three under18 players in his 28-man squad for the Junior World Championship in New Zealand this June, two of them from Tayside and Fife.
Strathallan and Howe of Fife back five forward, Jamie Ritchie, who captained Scotland U18s this season is joined by his team- mate, prop Zander Fagerson, who was at Dundee High School before moving to Strathallan and then to Glasgow Hawks.
The third U18 is Nor thampton Saints midf ield player Rory Hutchison.
All three we r e outstanding for Scotland in the recent FIRA/AER European U18 tournament in Poland, and deservedly win places in the Scotland U20 squad.
Strathallan and Howe of Fife have a further representative in the squad in prop Cameron Fenton.
Lineen has also been able to select Scotland Sevens players Alex Glashan, Chris Dean and Neil Herron.
“This squad is about getting the balance right between being competitive and developing players” Lineen said.
“A lot of the guys didn’t understand the level and fitness required for this kind of competition, but they’ve worked incredibly hard.
“For a number of these guys it’ll be the pinnacle of their rugby career, so they’ve got to grasp it.”
Scotland will play two matches prior to leaving for New Zealand — the first against Ireland at Murrayfield on May 11, then they will faceWales at Bridgend on May 14.
