McManus decision delights Lichties boss

-

ARBROATH BOSS Paul Sheerin has spoken of his delight after persuading striker Paul McManus to stay with the club for another season.

The 31-year-old frontman, who has played for seven clubs during his 14-year career, joined the Red Lichties from Forfar in January and scored six times in 12 starts as the Gayfield men tried without success to beat the drop.

Sheerin thought that relegation to League Two would see McManus move on but he has coaxed him into staying.

“Paul showed towards the end of the season what a good goalscorer he is,” he said.

“I was concerned that we might lose him but I am delighted he has agreed to stay with us for another season.”

Montrose have parted company with Craig Duguid who joined the club in January from Aberdeen.

The full-back looks set to move to the Highland League, withCoveRangers after his signature.

Raith Rovers have received a major boost with the news that they have broken their season ticket sales record.

With glamour league games against Rangers, Hearts and Hibs to look forward to in the forthcoming campaign, fans have flocked to pick up their books with 1,094 sold already — 35% ahead of the same period last year.

“Clearly there is huge excitement about the 2014/15 Scottish Championship, so we hope to see many more applications before the season starts,” said club chief executive Eric Drysdale.

“We have welcomed over 400 new season ticket holders of all ages. A massive thank-you to our loyal supporters.“

Meanwhile, Raith have announced that Dougie Hill has become the latest player to commit himself to the club for next season, signing a new one-year deal.

Cowdenbeath boss Jimmy Nicholl yesterday clinched two more signings when he snapped up central defender Darren Brownlie from Partick Thistle and re-signed talented young midfielder Liam Callaghan.
