Jefferies delighted as Stirling joins Pars

-

DUNFERMLINE yesterday unveiled their third signing of the week — Stranraer midfielder Andy Stirling.

Stirling has joined Gregor Buchanan and Michael Moffat in making the switch to East End Park.

Pars boss Jim Jefferies was impressed with the 24-year-old when he came up against his team in League One last season.

Stirling can play on both flanks and regularly chipped in with goals for the Stair Park side.

He started off his career with St Mirren, before moving on to Stenhousemuir and East Stirlingshire.

After signing Moffat from Ay r United and Buchanan from Airdrie, Jefferies has two spots left to fill in his squad.

Jefferies said: “Andy had a few offers and Stranraer were desperate to keep him, but full-time football appealed to him and he has agreed to come to us.

“He’s a player that has always done well against us and we’re delighted to get him. We have not really had a natural wide player since Joe Cardle left, but Andy is an out-and-out winger who can play on both sides and will be a great addition to the squad.”

Jefferies is also looking for another frontman, and Annan Athletic’s Kenny MacKay is his first choice for that position, as revealed in Courier Sport.

However, Morton’s new boss Jim Duffy is trying to take the 23-year-old back to Cappielow for a second time.

MacKay joined the Galabank side last summer from Greenock Juniors.

Talks over a move to Dunfermline have taken place, but Duffy is hoping to entice Mackay back to the club where he played as a youth.

Geographically, a Morton move could be appealing, as MacKay lives in Dunoon and takes a ferry to nearby Gourock for training and games with Annan, who are keen to keep hold of the striker.

Annan boss Jim Chapman said: “We recognise that the opportunity to move to fulltime football is a great attraction. Both Dunfermline and Morton have made inquiries and the next move is up to the player.”
