Redundancy support event for mill staff

A redundancy support event was held in Glenrothes yesterday to help workers affected by the announceme­nt that Tullis Russell paper makers has gone into administra­tion.

The Pace Redundancy Support Event was held in the Balbirnie House Hotel, Balbirnie Park, Markinch. Around 20 exhibitors attended, including support agencies, training providers, and employers interested in recruiting.

The 325 employees made redundant immediatel­y last week and a further 150 who were given notice were invited.

Partnershi­p Action for Continuing Employment (Pace), is the Scottish Government’s initiative for responding to redundancy situations. It aims to minimise the time individual­s affected by redundancy are out of work.

The first meeting of the Fife Taskforce, co-chaired by Deputy First Minister John Swinney and Fife Council leader David Ross, met last Thursday. The taskforce has been backed with £6 million of Scottish Government funds.

Mr Swinney said: “We are committed to working together with key public and private bodies, workforce representa­tives and local politician­s to do all we can to support those who have been made redundant and are affected by the decision during this difficult time.

“It is essential that we act quickly.”
