The Courier & Advertiser (Fife Edition)
Making predictions: brave but perhaps stupid...
Itend to be wary of making political predictions because, even if you get them almost all correct, it’s that one fluff which will haunt you. Still, let’s have a bash at our Courier Country seats so readers – and politicians – can laugh at and malign my judgment later.
Angus: Mike Weir (SNP). A deserved reputation as a good local MP, in a safe seat.
Dundee East: Stewart Hosie (SNP). Respected depute leader playing a prominent role in campaigning.
Dundee West: Chris Law (SNP). Good campaign by Michael Marra but it’ll be the affable fire engine convertor completing a “Yes City” sweep.
North East Fife: Stephen Gethins (SNP). Very capable candidate watching Lib Dems and Conservatives scrap.
Glenrothes: Melanie Ward (Labour). Tight, but hard-working Ward will probably just edge out Peter Grant.
Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath: Kenny Selbie (Labour). Much closer than it should be. The 23,000 majority will be slashed after a strong SNP campaign.
Dunfermline and West Fife: Thomas Docherty (Labour). A very tough call. If Liberal Democrat No voters go Labour Docherty will win. Turnout is key.
Perth and North Perthshire: Pete Wishart (SNP). He’s seen off Tory challenges before and will do so again.
Ochil and Perthshire South: On the fence! The SNP are desperate for Tasmina Sheik to win but tactical voting and a sterling local reputation could see Labour’s Gordon Banks over the line.
