Intriguing day for Arbroath

-

Fraser Watts is ready to spearhead Carlton’s quest to blow the Eastern Premiership title race wide open – and boost Arbroath’s hopes of bringing the trophy back to Lochlands.

Third-placed Carlton square up to pace-setters Grange in the capital derby at Raeburn Place.

Angus face a tricky encounter against Heriots just a mile up the road at Goldenacre.

A win for Watts and Co, coupled with success for Arbroath, would pave the way for an intriguing climax.

Watts said: “Our game is huge in terms of shaping the destiny of the season for Grange, Arbroath and ourselves. It will certainly make it a fascinating final fortnight in the campaign if we are able to get the result we want.”

Meanwhile, Arbroath captain Marc Petrie insisted he won’t be looking for regular updates from Raeburn Place.

“There is no point in worrying what may or may not be happening elsewhere because all we can control is what is happening in our match.

“We are heartened by the fact that we have been performing really well in recent weeks and we produced the perfect performance to comprehensively beat RH Corstorphine at Lochlands.

“We must carry on that momentum against Heriots, who are a very good side.

“Of course we will be hoping that Carlton can do us a big favour, but we must focus on making sure we earn the victory we need,” he said.

Forfarshire will fancy their chances of a valuable triumph over Watsonians at Myreside.

Falkland should be too strong for Stoneywood-Dyce at Scroggie Park.

Relegated RHC host fallen champions Aberdeenshire.
