Bain has a personal reason to beat Hearts
Dundee: Edinburgh-born keeper Scott Bain will know all about it if the Dark Blues are defeated at Dens this afternoon
Scott Bain has revealed he was taking no chances last night – by banning his Hearts-supporting flat-mate from cooking dinner.
The Dundee keeper shares his Edinburgh home with boyhood pal Gaz Anderson, who will be at Dens today as the Jambos come calling.
No matter what happens over the 90 minutes, Bain believes he will be left in a no-win situation with his friend tonight.
The Edinburgh-born goalie was firstly asked who he supported as a boy and he smiled and diplomatically answered: “Edinburgh City.
“But my flatmate Gaz Anderson is a Hearts fan and he will be coming up to the game.
“I’ll be getting him tickets so maybe he will be a Dundee fan for the day.
“We normally take turns with the cooking but he will be on the cleaning duties on Friday night.
“Hopefully, he will have nothing to wind me up about on Saturday.
“We have been mates since we were at school but I might have to move out after the game, either way. “He might lock me out if we win! “However, I am sure he will be hoping I do well.”
Hearts, of course, won promotion back into the Premiership by romping to the Championship title last season.
When asked if it was good to have the Jambos back, Bain said: “Definitely. I think it’s good for every club to have them coming to their grounds and filling them out.
“It will be a great atmosphere at our game.
“The fact that they strolled to the league last year will have impressed their fans.
“So it will be interesting to see how they do against us.”
Dundee are in buoyant frame of mind following their resounding 4-0 victory at Kilmarnock last week.
The Dark Blues dominated the match with Bain left as a virtual spectator between the sticks – and he admits he would not be bothered one little bit if he had similar quiet games for the rest of the season.
He said: “It kind of surprised me just how good we were last week.
“We had been doing well in training and the gaffer has brought in some new players but I thought we looked really good.
“It was great to watch and I think it is the easiest game I have ever had.
“I would be happy if that continued to happen for the rest of the season. The boys were great.
“Obviously it would be hard to play like that every week but the lads will give it their best shot to keep performances high.
“We know we have a tough game on Saturday against Hearts but if we play like that again, we have nothing to fear.”
Bain was a stand-out for the Dark Blues last season with his performances earning him an international call-up for Scotland games in June but unfortunately had to call off because of injury.
Now, he is looking to steer clear of niggles this term and to hopefully work his way back into national boss Gordon Strachan’s thoughts.
He said: “I think this season I amgoing to try to stay fit and play every game.
“I played most of last season with niggles here and there so hopefully I can get a run of games where I am fine and get through the entire season without any problems and try to impress the Scotland manager. If I keep playing well then I might at least be in the picture for the future.”
Nigeria left-back Juwon Oshaniwa will travel with the Hearts squad but might not be ready to make his Premiership debut.
