Clement’s Grove role
Linda Clement – Scotland’s most capped player and captain of the 2014 Commonwealth Games squad – will take on the challenge of coaching Grove Menzieshill ladies as they enter a new season’s campaign in the Scottish premier league and in Europe.
Commonwealth Games appearances in Manchester, Melbourne, Delhi and Glasgow, plus 61 goals from her 242 outings and national captain on 100 plus occasions, is testament to her strong leadership skills and true role model for the sport in Scotland.
Linda takes over the role with immediate effect following the retirement of Charlotte Jones at the end of last season.
Charlotte, who has coached the first team squad to multiple Scottish League and Cup successes in addition to a string of European medal-winning performances over the past decade, switches to the role of performance manager.
Acknowledging the fact that she has a difficult act to follow, Linda fully intends to stick with Charlotte’s mantra of “happy players play better”.
“I am excited by the opportunity to take on the coaching of one of Scotland’s top teams,” she said.
“I know that I will be working with and supported by a good group of players, and that I will be supported by Charlotte, who has done a great job as our coach over the years.
“Last season ended on a high as we won the European Champions Challenge in France, and I hope that we can build on this momentum to bring more honours to the club.
“We also have a growing junior hockey programme and I look forward to working with these players as they progress towards the first team.
“There’s an excellent blend of experience and youth within our ranks and having recently moved from Edinburgh to take up the post of head of PE at Dundee High School affords a great deal more pitch time to concentrate on across the board development.”
Team gold in Bordeaux was one of three accolades with Linda picking up the award for top scorer while keeper Cath Rae was voted best keeper on the tournament.
Club president Kyle Moir said, “We are delighted that Linda has agreed to become our new coach.
“She has all of the attributes that we were looking for. We are certain that the club will support her as she embarks upon this new challenge.”
