Cupar North master plan to be revealed to residents
Public to get opportunity to see what is planned
A master plan for the expansion of Cupar is to be revealed next week.
Developers behind a proposal to build 1,400 homes will present their blueprint at exhibitions next Wednesday and Thursday.
People will be able to have their say on the Cupar North scheme, which would include construction of a bypass road from near Gilliesfauld to the trading estate.
A planning application is expected to be submitted next month.
Representatives of the three firms in the Cupar North Consortium – Persimmon Homes, Headon Developments and VICO Properties – will attend the events.
Planning consultant David Wardrop said: “The Cupar North master plan has been prepared following a significant amount of technical work on matters such as transportation, road design, landscape, flood risk and drainage.
“It has also taken into consideration the points raised by the community at the initial consultation events in October 2014 and the community group workshop held in March, which provided a better understanding of community concerns.
“We were very pleased to have had such good turnouts at previous consultation events and hope that the community will return to view the proposed plan prior to the planning application submission at the end of September.”
The proposal was debated at a public meeting on Tuesday evening attended by around 50 people.
Gina Logan, from Cupar, who arranged the gathering, said there was substantial opposition to the expansion, which she warned could make the town a building site for years to come.
She said: “We don’t want to create another Duloch. It is another town altogether from Dunfermline and we don’t want that here.
“There is no need for that amount of housing in Cupar and we definitely don’t need the bypass as the road system in the town is adequate now.”
Wednesday’s exhibition will be in Elmwood College from 5 to 8.30pm and Thursday’s in the Corn Exchange from 3 to 8.30pm.
The master plan and summaries of technical work and responses to community comments will subsequently be posted online at www.cuparnorth.co.uk.
