Dundee rivals to clash in semi-final in Glasgow
The healthy rivalry between Dundee’s two premier clubs will be put to the test for the third time this season when Grove Menzieshill and MJV Wanderers clash in Sunday’s semi-final of the Scottish Cup at Glasgow Green.
Pauline Stott, Iona Armour and Leigh Fawcett claimed the bragging rights for Grove back in October.
However, in-form Wanderers hit back earlier this month with Charlotte Watson, Amanda Maxwell and Vikki Bunce delivering the knockout punches which left Grove’s ambitions of a successful league campaign hanging on a shoogly peg.
With Wanderers already pocketing a sixth Scottish indoor title last month, and Edinburgh University in the box seat to defend their outdoor crown, Grove’s best chance of silverware is to advance to a Scottish Cup final against the victor of the Edinburgh University/ Western Wildcats match up at the same venue.
Dundee University take local representation in Glasgow to three with the students knowing they need to produce their A-game if they are to bag a place in the Plate Final at the expense of a strong MCCW second string.
Twenty-four hours earlier the Dundee duo will be engaged in crucial national league outings, with the DISC head-to-head between Grove and Clydesdale Western eclipsing the battle in the capital between Wanderers and hosts CALA.
With Edinburgh’s students favourites to wrap up the title against Erskine Stewart’s Melville, and the final whistle having gone on the Grove/ Western match, Wanderers will take the pitch knowing what they must do to strengthen their grip on third place.
