Dundee High continue chase for play-off place
Things are hotting up in the run-in at the top of BT National 1 with Dundee High Rugby facing as difficult a series of games as they could have chosen to get to a play-off place.
They are 11 points behind second-placed Marr but have played one game less before they take on second bottom Kelso tomorrow.
It is after that game when the Mayfield men will have to be at their best as they play the three teams above them in the league, leaders Watsonians, Marr and Jed.
Marr put a serious dent in Jed’s chances of making the play-offs with a 27-15 win at Troon last week while it took a last-gasp effort from Dundee to grab four points from their clash with GHA with a 20-19 win thanks to a try from Danny Levison, wearing the unaccustomed No 15 shirt rather than his regular No 8.
That he had to demonstrate his versatility is evidence of the injury problems Dundee have experienced behind the scrum and that may well prove to be an obstacle too difficult to overcome.
High may also come to rue the fact that they didn’t take a bonus from the GHA game but if they can get maximum points from the joust against the Poynder Park men they are still in the hunt.
Howe of Fife travel to Stoneyhill to take on Musselburgh and, having played three games less than their opponents but heading them by one point, they will be determined not to let Burgh leapfrog them.
Recent form doesn’t favour the Duffus Park men but they won the previous match-up 26-13 at home and will again be looking for full points.
Kirkcaldy have no game in BT National 2 but in BT National 3, Perthshire travel to bottom of the table Berwick.
Last week they lost at North Inch to Irvine and will be determined not to suffer the ignominy of losing to the two bottom sides in successive weeks.
Having won 64-14 at home Perthshire should start favourites but Berwick will be battling to get out of the bottom spot.
