Cash available for unpaid carers

-

Fife’s unpaid carers can get up to £300 to help them take a break.

Some £10,000 remains available in the Creative Breaks Fund, which runs until August. Grants are given by Fife Voluntary Action to give carers a break from their responsibilities, either with or without the person they care for.

The money can be used for a holiday or other purposes, such as driving lessons to help the carer get out and about or technology to help them keep in touch with relatives and friends.

It is offered to value carers’ vital roles and wellbeing and allow them to tailor their own break to suit their lifestyle.

Last year 87 carers in the region were supported, with more than 12,000 hours of respite given.

Jo Clark, co-ordinator of the fund, said the cash was a big boost for many, adding: “We’re pleased to have helped support thousands of hours of respite for carers in Fife.

“If you or someone you know could benefit from this fund, we’d love to hear from you.”

The initiative is run in partnership with Fife Carers Centre, Crossroads and Fife Young Carers, and receives money from the Scottish Government for carers who look after people aged 20 and over. Funding for next year has not been guaranteed.
