Drivers urged to avoid the A90 as overnight work starts

-

Motorists are warned to expect delays tonight as overhead gantries are installed on the A90 between Ferrytoll and Admiralty junctions in Fife.

The closure will be in place north of the Forth Road Bridge in both directions from 9pm on Friday to 5am on Saturday.

The two gantries, part of the Forth replacement crossing project, will be installed overnight to minimise disruption.

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the A90 at Admiralty with cars and light vehicles signed to Ferrytoll via Inverkeithing. Heavy traffic and those heading for the Port of Rosyth will be diverted via the A985 and Castle Road, Rosyth.

Northbound traffic approaching from the bridge will be diverted at Ferrytoll Junction to take the Castle Road/A985 diversion to Admiralty junction.

Transport Scotland’s Steven Brown said: “This work has been planned to take place overnight and at the weekend to minimise restrictions and delays for road users as far as is possible.

“However, we recognise this work could result in some disruption and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

“The diversions being used have worked well previously.

“To reduce the impact on local residents we aim to separate HGV traffic from the main car flow.

“Our advice to road users is to plan ahead, check the travel information from Traffic Scotland and allow extra time where necessary. During this time the Forth Road Bridge will remain fully open.”

There will be overnight work to install another two gantries in October and November.
